Randy E. David, PhD, MSc
President
Randy leads the integration of scientific, clinical, and commercial strategy across Charrette’s engagements. A nationally-recognized leader in the evaluation, value demonstration, and adoption of emerging healthcare technologies, he has advised pre-Series A to Fortune 50 companies, national health systems, government agencies, and investors. Randy holds a PhD in Genetics and completed additional training in population health, HTA, and biomedical anthropology. He holds multiple faculty, committee, and board appointments.
Paul R. Billings, MD, PhD
Senior Principal, Evidence and Commercialization
Paul brings more than 40 years of leadership in genomic medicine, biotechnology, and molecular diagnostics. A board-certified internist and clinical geneticist, he has served as CEO and Chairman of Biological Dynamics, Chief Medical Officer and SVP of Medical Affairs at Natera, CMO at Thermo Fisher Scientific, and in senior roles at Labcorp, Life Technologies, Quest Diagnostics, and Johnson & Johnson. At Charrette, Paul helps clients build the evidence, regulatory, reimbursement, partnership, and commercialization pathways required to move emerging healthcare technologies into clinical practice and achieve sustainable market adoption.
Russell A. Faust, MD, PhD, MPH
Principal, Healthcare Adoption and Integration
Russell is a physician-scientist and healthcare executive who helps Charrette clients integrate diagnostics and emerging technologies into laboratory and clinical workflows. He has served as a health director, medical director, and laboratory director, and held the Carls Foundation Endowed Chair of Otolaryngology at Children's Hospital of Michigan. Drawing on his clinical, operational, and public health leadership, Russell helps organizations align implementation, workflow, governance, and stakeholder requirements to support responsible and sustainable adoption.
Jana Mike, MD, PhD
Principal, Clinical Translation and Investment Intelligence
Jana is a physician-scientist, pediatric intensivist, and healthcare investor who brings translational diligence and investment intelligence to Charrette’s evaluation of emerging healthcare opportunities. As Venture Partner of Fractal Pediatric Capital and an attending physician at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, she combines frontline clinical judgment with translational research and venture experience. Jana evaluates the strength and relevance of the underlying science, identifies critical evidence and development gaps, and clarifies the clinical, regulatory, and translational milestones needed to determine whether an opportunity is positioned to advance.
Julio Lorenzi, PhD, MSc
Principal, Translational Science and Biomarker Strategy
Julio leads Charrette’s translational science and biomarker capabilities. A molecular immunologist, his work spans vaccine development, antibody therapeutics, and immune-response characterization. While a Principal Scientist at Moderna, Julio led biomarker and IND-preparation activities for VZV and EBV vaccine programs, including assay selection, CRO qualification, and regulatory-ready data packages. A Senior Scientist at Harvard and former Research Associate at Rockefeller University, he helps Charrette’s clients assess scientific rationale, design evidence programs, manage external research partners, and translate emerging technologies toward clinical development.
Ryan Shay, BS
Principal, Market Access and Value Strategy
Ryan directs Charrette’s work in market access, payer evidence, pricing, coding, and coverage. With more than 15 years of experience across biopharma, precision medicine, and AI-enabled healthcare technologies, he helps clients define and substantiate the clinical and economic value of emerging products. At Charrette, he aligns evidence-generation plans, value claims, pricing decisions, and access strategies with payer expectations and market/economic requirements. Ryan holds a BS from Georgetown University, and began his career as a genomics researcher before transitioning to management roles at Guardant Health, Strata Oncology, and elsewhere.
John Epp, BS
Director, Strategic Partnerships and Market Research
John Epp leads strategic partnerships and market research across Charrette’s engagements. A former account executive and go-to-market (quantitative) analyst, he combines market research, real-world data, competitive intelligence, and health policy to evaluate technologies, customer needs, and commercial opportunities. Working with Charrette’s leaders, John translates these findings into data analytics, and subsequent market-entry priorities, partnership strategies, and business development opportunities. He furthermore conducts integral portfolio mapping, survey design, and KOL outreach. John holds a BS from UC Santa Barbara.
